Mac Jones Responds to 49ers Trade Rumors in New Video Ahead of 2026 NFL Season
After being mentioned as a potential trade candidate early in the offseason, Mac Jones sounds optimistic about remaining with the San Francisco 49ers during the 2026 season.
Appearing on Tuesday's episode of The Rich Eisen Show, Jones explained his "feet are in San Francisco and I like it a lot."
Jones also praised 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, praising the organization as being the "best" one that he has played for since entering the NFL.
The 49ers signed Jones to a two-year contract as a free agent in March 2025. He wound up starting eight games when Brock Purdy was out due to injuries.
Jones helped keep the Niners afloat during that stretch, throwing for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns and completing 69.6 percent of his attempts. The 49ers went 5-3 in his eight starts.
As a result of Jones' success, there was some thought he could be a trade candidate in the offseason. One reason he remains with the 49ers is they reportedly set a high price on him of at least a second-round draft pick.
Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reported last month the door may not be entirely closed on a Jones trade, but a lot would depend on how much development the 49ers see from second-year quarterback Kurtis Rourke.
Given that Purdy has missed time due to injuries in each of the last two seasons, the 49ers will likely be reluctant to move on from Jones knowing he is capable of keeping the offense on track in their quest to make the playoffs.
