Brady, Matthew Tkachuk React to Panthers Trade in Video After Blockbuster Deal from Senators

Brothers Brady and Matthew Tkachuk commented Tuesday on having the opportunity to be teammates with the Florida Panthers this coming season.

Speaking Tuesday on their Wingmen podcast (h/t B/R Open Ice), Brady insisted that going to Florida was more about the Panthers organization than getting to team up with Matthew, saying, "I made this decision taking you [Matthew] out of it. It wasn't about you."

Matthew followed up by saying, "We need Brady. We need this. We have to take a step."

On Sunday, the Panthers acquired Brady from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for three first-round picks and a second-round pick, making the Tkachuk brothers teammates at the NHL level for the first time ever.

After reaching three consecutive Stanley Cup Finals from 2023 to 2025 and winning the Stanley Cup in both 2024 and 2025, the Panthers dropped off last season.

Injuries were the main contributing factor, as key players such as Matthew Tkachuk, Aleksander Barkov, Brad Marchand, Sam Reinhart and Seth Jones all missed significant time.

As a result, Florida missed the playoffs with 84 points, marking the first time that happened since 2019.

However, assuming better luck in the health department this coming season, the Panthers are loaded up and seemingly ready to make another run at the Cup.

Brady Tkachuk joins a stacked roster that already includes the likes of Matthew Tkachuk, Barkov, Marchand, Reinhart, Aaron Ekblad, Sam Bennett, Jones, Carter Verhaeghe, Gustav Forsling and Anton Lundell, all of whom played major roles in Stanley Cup wins.

In Brady Tkachuk, the Panthers get a four-time All-Star and former Senators captain who is cut from the same cloth as his brother since both are big, physical and capable of putting the puck in the back of the net.

The 26-year-old Tkachuk's 22 goals last season were his fewest since the 2020-21 campaign, but he still managed 59 points in 60 games.

All told, Tkachuk has recorded 213 goals and 250 assists for 463 points in 572 career games, including three seasons with 30 or more goals.

He also teamed with Matthew last season as part of the United States Olympic men's hockey team, helping lead Team USA to its first Olympic gold medal since 1980.

Given how well the Tkachuk brothers meshed at the Olympic level, there is plenty of reason to believe they will do the same in the NHL, especially with so much elite talent around them.
