Latest Rumors on Brendan Sorsby's Landing Spot in NFL Supplemental Draft and Potential Free Agency
Quarterback Brendan Sorsby reportedly could entice a team to part with a second-round draft pick in order to land him in the 2026 NFL supplemental draft.
During an appearance Friday on the Pat McAfee Show, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said he expects the team that selects Sorbsy to use a second- or third-round pick in order to do so:

Rapoport noted that he spoke to seven NFL general managers, and the consensus was that while Sorsby is a first-round talent, a team may not be willing to give up a first-round pick for him.
Sorsby was in line to start for Texas Tech this season after transferring from Cincinnati, but a wrench was thrown into those plans when he was ruled ineligible to play college football due to the determination that he broke the NCAA rule of betting on NCAA-sanctioned sports.
Per ESPN's Mark Schlabach and David Purdum, court documents revealed that Sorsby placed "at least 40 bets" on Indiana University football games while he was with the team from 2022 to 2023.
Earlier this month, Sorsby was granted a temporary injunction against the NCAA, which would have made him eligible to play college football in 2026, but on Tuesday, Sorsby applied to enter the NFL supplemental draft instead.
A supplemental draft has not been held since 2023 due to a lack of eligible prospects, and no supplemental draft pick has been made since 2019.
While it is no guarantee the NFL will move forward with a supplemental draft in 2026, Rapoport reported that a decision is expected to be made on that front early next week.
If no supplemental draft is held or no team takes him, Sorsby would become a free agent.
The way the supplemental draft works is that interested teams submit a bid on a player, and the team that bids the highest draft pick gets to select them.
Should a team land Sorsby with a second-round pick in the 2026 NFL supplemental draft, it would mean that they forfeit their second-round pick in the 2027 NFL draft.
The 22-year-old Sorsby had the best statistical season of his collegiate career last year with Cincinnati, completing 61.6 percent of his passes for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns and five interceptions, while also rushing for 580 yards and nine scores.
With next year's NFL draft expected to be headlined by big-time quarterback prospects such as Texas' Arch Manning, Oregon's Dante Moore, Oklahoma State's Drew Mestemaker and Notre Dame's CJ Carr, it could explain why quarterback-needy teams may be reluctant to use a first-rounder on Sorsby despite his upside.
