Guardians manager Stephen Vogt discussed the injury to Ramírez after the game.
"It was the swing on the pop up, and he felt it," Vogt said, per Mason Horodyski of News 5 Cleveland. "He had a similar injury, I think, to the right hand a few years ago... He tried to go back out. He knew the position we were in, grabbed his glove. He said, 'Maybe I can at least play defense', and couldn't squeeze his glove. So, Hosey wanted to get back out there to help us win that game, and just couldn't."
"We're working through the logistics of what the next steps are, so we'll know more tomorrow or the next day," he added. "You know these things can get complicated, but yeah, I mean, they confirmed that it is a hamate fracture."
During the 2019 season, Ramírez fractured his right hamate bone and later underwent surgery.
His upcoming absence is a particularly tough blow to the Guardians given his durability, as he's appeared in at least 152 games during each of the past five years.
Ramírez also suited up in all 72 of Cleveland's regular-season contests this year before suffering the injury.
He's hitting .239 with 10 home runs and 18 doubles to go along with 33 RBI to start his 2026 campaign, posting a .757 OPS. His 24 stolen bases are tied for the most in the American League.
The Guardians currently sit atop the AL Central standings with a 39-33 record.
