Baines to Miss Significant Time After Ankle Injury
Thursday, Aug. 13
News of the knock suffered by the England left-back came via Sky Sports, which reported Baines will be out 12 to 14 weeks.
After missing the early stages of the 2015/16 season with injury problems, this issue comes at the worst possible time for Baines.
The defender is a critical component of this Everton team. It’s the modus operandi of the modern full-back to get forward and affect the game, and few do it better than the former Wigan Athletic man. The Toffees will miss his creative forays down the left flank.
With young Luke Garbutt on loan at Fulham, manager Roberto Martinez's options are limited. Costa Rica defender Bryan Oviedo is capable of slotting in, while youngster Brendan Galloway could also do the job, having impressed with his dynamic playing style. But Baines is a tough man for Everton to replace.
His experience, talent and understated defensive work make Baines one of the standout left-backs in the Premier League. His absence will be hugely detrimental to Everton's cause.
