Caitlin Clark Discusses Fever's Win Over Angel Reese, Dream, 'The Sky Is Not Falling'
After a high-profile win over Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream, Caitlin Clark hopes the noise around the Indiana Fever will quiet down.
Speaking to reporters following the Fever's 83-71 victory on Thursday, Clark explained "the sky is not falling" amid recent speculation about behind-the-scenes drama for the team.
Both Clark and the Fever have had disappointing starts to the season. Even after Thursday's win, their 5-4 record ranks seventh in the WNBA. They had lost back-to-back games before defeating Atlanta.
Clark has yet to turn in a vintage performance this season. She finished with 17 points on 6-of-17 shooting with eight assists and seven rebounds against the Dream.
The two-time All-Star is only shooting 38.7 percent from the field, while averaging career-lows in assists (8.1) and rebounds (4.4). One encouraging sign is she has limited herself to four turnovers in the past two games after having at least four in each of her first six games.
There was also the recent heated exchange on the sideline between Clark and Fever head coach Stephanie White during a May 30 loss to the Portland Fire.
All of these issues led to Fever guard Sophie Cunningham revealing on Tuesday there was a team meeting that allowed everyone to clear the air and get back on the same page.
Thursday was the first game for Indiana since that meeting. It was one of the team's best all-around performances this season, with the defense allowing 71 points to an Atlanta squad that entered having won four of its last five games.
The Fever will look to keep their momentum going on Saturday in another high-profile matchup against the New York Liberty at Barclays Center.
