Conflicting Rumors on Caitlin Clark, Fever's HC Stephanie White's Hot Seat
Despite rumors of Stephanie White's dismissal from the Indiana Fever, it appears the head coach isn't going anywhere.
Skip Bayless posted on social media about White reportedly being fired amid a clash with star Caitlin Clark on Sunday. Chloe Peterson of the Indy Star reported that "there is absolutely no validity to that report."
While White isn't on the hot seat, the Fever have had a rough start to the season that has only been made worse by apparent tension between Clark and her head coach.
During a loss to Portland on Saturday, White was giving a fiery speech to her team, and she appeared to be speaking directly to Clark at times. Clark then threw her hands up and was taken out of the lineup. She was visibly frustrated by the exchange.
It's a bit unfair to judge Clark and White's relationship based on one interaction, and it very likely could have just been a moment of tension between two highly competitive individuals.
Clark struggled in the loss to Portland, finishing with just six points on 1-of-7 from the field.
The interaction with her coach amid a bad game only added to what has been a rough week for Clark. Earlier this week, she declined to speak to the media after a loss to the Golden State Valkyries, which isn't a great look for a player who is supposed to be the face of the franchise.
Any time a player like Clark shows signs of being upset with her situation, fans and media naturally will speculate whether a change is coming. For now, White will remain the coach, and it's hard to imagine the Fever will try to move on from Clark.
Indiana still has plenty of season left and will look to turn things around soon.
