Caitlin Clark Reveals Mindset After Heavy Criticism of WNBA Star, Says She Avoids Social Media
It's impossible for Caitlin Clark to totally avoid the circus that follows her every move, but the Indiana Fever star can at least try.
Ahead of Thursday's game against the Atlanta Dream, Clark told reporters she generally steers clear of social media and is "doing great." That's a contrast to the state of discourse around her:

Whenever a prospect arrives in the pros with a massive amount of hype, there's always an accompanying pushback. In the case of Clark, she's also an avatar for structural problems surrounding the WNBA that far predated her arrival in 2024.
The criticism toward the two-time All-Star is beginning to come from a more broad audience, though. Her tendency to argue with refs in particular is beginning to grate with fans.
The Fever's 4-4 start is influencing how people are perceiving what might be innocuous moments as well. If the team is faring better, the tense exchange between Clark and coach Stephanie White in a 100-84 defeat to the Portland Fire might be ignored altogether rather than create a news cycle of its own.
Generations ago, it was a little easier for a star athlete to tune out the noise. Social media didn't exist, and the airwaves weren't completely flood with television personalities trying to out-take one another.
Clark has to be aware to some degree what is being said about her on social media and more traditional means of communication.
The 2024 Rookie of the Year also knows that winning cures a lot of woes. If the Fever can string some victories together, the temperature around her and her team is bound to lower.
