Giants' Gunner Olszewski Reportedly Suffers Serious Leg Injury After Being Carted Off at OTAs
New York Giants wide receiver and return man Gunner Olszewski was carted off the field during OTAs on Friday after suffering what is believed to be a torn Achilles, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Per Dan Duggan of The Athletic, Olszewski went down with a non-contact injury while running a route. Olszewski "immediately showed significant frustration" as he grabbed his lower right leg.
The 29-year-old veteran has been part of the Giants organization since 2023 after previous stints as a member of the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Olszewski's reported torn Achilles occurred just one week after Giants defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris was lost for the season with a torn Achilles suffered during OTAs as well.
After getting released by the Steelers during the 2023 campaign, the Giants signed Olszewski to their practice squad.
He appeared in 10 games for the G-Men that season and returned a punt 94 yards for a touchdown.
Olszewski did not play at all in 2024 after being placed on injured reserve with a groin injury, but he returned to appear in 16 games for the Giants last season.
In addition to setting career highs as a pass-catcher with 10 receptions for 145 yards and a touchdown, Olszewski averaged 9.0 yards on 24 punt returns and a career-high 26.2 yards on 26 kick returns.
Olszewski's best season came in 2020 when he led the NFL with 17.3 yards per punt return and scored a punt return touchdown en route to being named a First Team All-Pro return man as a member of the Patriots.
With the anticipated return of Malik Nabers from injury, the signings of Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III in free agency, and the selection of Malachi Fields in the third round of the 2026 NFL draft, Olszewski did not figure to factor heavily into the offense this season as a wideout.
However, he likely was the favorite to retain his return duties, meaning the Giants will have to explore other options if his injury is confirmed to be a torn Achilles.
