Mac Jones, 49ers Reportedly Revise Contract, Updated Bonuses, Incentives for 2026 NFL Season
The San Francisco 49ers reportedly revised backup quarterback Mac Jones' contract heading into the 2026 campaign.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday that San Francisco added a $300,000 roster bonus to the contract, which will pay Jones $3.5 million in 2026. What's more, he can make another $2.25 million in incentives.
Jones is scheduled for free agency after the 2026 season and could draw interest from teams looking for a starter.

However, he will be a highly paid backup in San Francisco with Brock Purdy leading the way under center.
Despite that backup status, Jones made eight starts last season as Purdy dealt with injuries. He went 5-3 in those starts and completed 69.6 percent of his passes for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions for the season.
The Alabama product's ability to keep the offense afloat even while Purdy was out was a major reason the 49ers made the playoffs before losing to the eventual-champion Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Divisional Round.
It was also an important reminder to the rest of the league that Jones can still capably lead an offense after he dealt with inconsistency amid high expectations after the New England Patriots selected him with the No. 15 overall pick of the 2021 NFL draft.
Jones was just 18-24 as a starter in New England and had 10 touchdown passes to 12 interceptions in his final year with the AFC East team. He then went 2-5 as a starter for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024 and needed something of a reset in his career.
San Francisco provided just that, as it allowed him to work in an offense loaded with playmakers under head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Jones took advantage of his opportunities last season, and now he is getting paid more heading into the new campaign.
