Gage Jump Reportedly Called Up by Athletics, Full Scouting Report on Team's No. 3 MLB Prospect
The Athletics are reportedly adding a major weapon to their pitching rotation.
ESPN's Jeff Passan reported Tuesday the American League West team is calling up pitcher Gage Jump while describing him as "one of the best left-handed pitching prospects in baseball" who "runs his fastball up to 97 and has struck out 56 in 38 innings at AAA."
According to MLB.com's prospect rankings, Jump is the No. 3 prospect in the organization.

Jump has made 35 career minor league appearances with 33 starts. He has a 3.58 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 187 strikeouts in 150.2 innings and started this season on the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators.
He underwent Tommy John surgery in college and missed his entire 2023 campaign but seems to be fully back after making so many appearances in the minor leagues the past two seasons.
"The 6-footer's fastball has always played up because of deception stemming from his lower arm slot, and his velocity has taken a nice step forward as well," his Baseball Savant scouting report explained.
"Given his size and unorthodox delivery, there have been questions about Jump's ability to hold up as a starter, and some still see some reliever risk in him. But he throws a ton of strikes and maintains his stuff with good arm speed, so there's no reason to keep him from trying to reach his mid-rotation ceiling now, with a chance of him impacting a big league staff in the near future."
This call up comes after Theo DeRosa of MLB.com reported starter Aaron Civale was expected to go on the injured list with an issue with his right shoulder or lat after pitching just four innings in Monday's loss to the Seattle Mariners.
"It's something I've been working through for a little bit, so I'm just trying to get a clearer idea of what's going on and get a game plan going forward," Civale said.
The Athletics are just 27-27 on the season, but that is good enough to be in first place in the struggling American League West. They face the Mariners again Tuesday in the second of a three-game set.
