New Jaxson Dart Rumors Leak on QB's Status with Giants, Future Role in Matt Nagy's Offense
Jaxson Dart reportedly is showing positive early signs as he adjusts to new offensive coordinator Matt Nagy's approach.
"I'm told that he has picked up Matt Nagy's offense well so far," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Sunday on SportsCenter. "In minicamp, OTAs next month, they really want him to just take the layups. They don't need the big plays.
"They feel like they have their best offensive line in a while, so they're going to run the ball a lot. They've got Greg Roman as an assistant, big run-heavy guy. So, you're going to see that. They want Dart to find that mix there between trying to make the big play and protecting himself."

Dart played well during his rookie season, but his running approach and willingness to take on contact led to injury concerns at times. That Fowler reported the Giants are looking for ways the quarterback can protect himself is notable given that backdrop.
He even talked about it himself Thursday.
"I mean my competitiveness isn't going to change at all," Dart told reporters. "I think, just like I said, it just goes into situationally. Just what times it's worth it and what times it's not. And just making those mature decisions."
Working with a mobile quarterback is nothing new for Giants head coach Jim Harbaugh or Roman considering they were with Lamar Jackson on the Baltimore Ravens. Nagy also worked with Justin Fields when they were both with the Chicago Bears.
With a veteran coaching staff in place, the offensive line Fowler highlighted, and playmakers such as Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers, the key to the Giants' 2026 campaign may be Dart taking a second-year leap in Nagy's offense.
The Ole Miss product went 4-8 in 12 starts and completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions while adding 487 yards and nine scores on the ground in 2025.
Taking what the defense gives them and making the plays available was part of Nagy's success when he was the offensive coordinator for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs the past three seasons, and the latest indication is Dart is adjusting well to that approach.
If he can continue making progress before the Sept. 13 opener against the Dallas Cowboys, he could unlock the Giants' overall ceiling as a potential contender in the NFC East.
