Kyle Busch's No. 8 Suspended By RCR After NASCAR Icon's Death, Reserved for Son Brexton
Richard Childress Racing has announced that it will suspend the use of No. 8 after the tragic passing of two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Kyle Busch.
The number will be reserved for his 11-year-old son, Brexton Busch, a well-accomplished driver in own right.
Busch, 41, died on Thursday after being hospitalized after a severe illness.
The Busch family, NASCAR and Richard Childress Racing released a statement after Busch passed.
Busch's 234 NASCAR national series race wins over the Cup Series, O'Reilly Series and Truck Series are the most of any driver in NASCAR history.
He dominated the Cup Series in 2015 and 2019, winning each year. In 2015, Busch won four races in five weeks from June 28-July 26. It was an incredible run after he suffered a compound fracture of the right lower leg and a left mid-foot fracture during the Daytona 500 to begin the season. Busch missed 10 straight races due to the injury.
Busch won a personal-best eight races in 2018 and was the NASCAR Cup Series regular season champion. One year later, Busch was the NASCAR Cup Series champion in a season that featured him winning five more races.
Over his NASCAR Cup Series career, Busch earned 63 wins and 395 top-10 finishes.
