Cam Skattebo Makes Bold 2K Yards Claim Ahead of 2nd Season with Giants amid Injury Rehab
Running back Cam Skattebo feels he can make New York Giants history with a fully healthy second season in the NFL.
Skattebo said at the team's annual town hall he didn't consider his rookie season "successful" after rushing for 410 yards on 101 carries before suffering season-ending injuries in Week 8.
"I had 400 yards on 100 carries," Skattebo said, per Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press. "When I play 17-plus games this year, it's going to be 300 carries for over 2,000 yards."

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Only nine NFL running backs have ever topped 2,000 yards in a single season. The short list includes Hall of Famers Eric Dickerson, Barry Sanders, Terrell Davis and O.J. Simpson. Saquon Barkley, formerly of the New York Giants, accomplished the feat in 2024 with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Giants franchise record for single-season rushing yards was set in 2005 by Hall of Famer Tiki Barber, who racked up 1,860 yards in his age-30 season with the team.
Skattebo told fans he expects to be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season after recovering from surgery on multiple injuries.
Those injuries included a right ankle dislocation, an open tibia fracture in which a bone broke skin and a ruptured deltoid ligament, per ESPN's Jordan Raanan.
Skattebo, selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL draft, got his first start for the Giants in Week 4.
He averaged 18 carries and 74 rushing yards per game over the first four starts of his NFL career before going down in his fifth start.
Skattebo's hopes of taking another step forward in 2026 will hinge on how he and quarterback Jaxson Dart fit into a new scheme led by head coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.
How the Giants use these two players could also depend on the health status of wide receiver Malik Nabers, who suffered a torn ACL last September and has since reportedly undergone multiple cleanup procedures. ESPN's Jordan Raanan recently reported the Giants "remain hopeful" Nabers will be available for Week 1.
