Rickea Jackson Suffers Serious Knee Injury, Latest Updates on Status for Rest of WNBA Season
Chicago Sky forward Rickea Jackson will miss the remainder of the 2026 WNBA season after suffering a significant knee injury during Sunday's 86-79 win over the Minnesota Lynx.
According to ESPN's Alexa Philippou, the Sky announced Tuesday that Jackson tore her ACL.
"We're devastated that Rickea suffered this injury, but we are confident she will make a full recovery," general manager Jeff Pagliocca said. "Rickea was playing at an All-Star and All-Defensive level early in the season. We are certain she was primed for a career year. Our world-class medical staff will work hard with Rickea, who is one of the toughest players in the league, to get her back on the court."
Jackson suffered the injury while driving to the basket during the second quarter of Sunday's game. She had to be helped off the court and did not return.
After spending her first two WNBA seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks, Jackson was traded to Chicago this past offseason for veteran guard Ariel Atkins.
Jackson seemed poised for a breakout during the early going this season, averaging a career-high 18.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.8 blocks per contest through four games.
The No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft also helped the Sky to an Eastern-Conference-best 3-1 start on the heels of the team going just 10-34 last season.
Jackson was the Sky's leading scorer by far this season before the injury, and several players will now be tasked with stepping up and replacing her production.
Veteran Skylar Diggins, 2024 No. 3 overall pick Kamilla Cardoso and rookie No. 5 overall pick Gabriela Jaquez are all averaging between 12.0 and 12.5 points per game this season.
That trio will likely need to elevate their respective games if the Sky are going to maintain their current trajectory of being a playoff contender.
The Sky will be back in action for the first time since the Jackson injury when they host the Dallas Wings on Wednesday night.
