Alvin Kamara's Roster Status Discussed by Saints GM After Travis Etienne Jr.'s Free-Agent Contract

Doric SamMay 18, 2026

After the New Orleans Saints signed running back Travis Etienne this offseason, many have wondered about the future of veteran speedster Alvin Kamara.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis didn't do much to shed more light on the situation, as he was noncommittal about Kamara's future with the team while speaking to reporters on Monday.

"We're just trying to see how he's gonna fit on our roster," Loomis said. "Obviously, there's a resource management element. We'll get to that over the next week or two."

Kamara, who has spent all nine of his NFL seasons in New Orleans, is set to count for a $10.5 million cap hit in the final year of his contract. The Saints could shed some salary by making him a post-June 1 cut.

The 30-year-old was limited to 11 games last year and produced a career-low 471 yards and one touchdown. Etienne racked up 1,107 yards and seven scores in his final year with the Jacksonville Jaguars, so he's set to step in as the lead back in New Orleans in 2026.

Kamara could need to take a pay cut if he wants to stick with the Saints, but the two sides could opt to part ways, which would be the end of an era.
