Bo Bichette Discusses Early Struggles After $126M Mets Contract, Reveals What He Didn't 'Anticipate'
New York Mets shortstop Bo Bichette has struggled to live up to his three-year, $126 million contract through the first quarter of the 2026 season, and he admits that he is still getting used to his new surroundings.
"There are a lot of things I didn't anticipate," Bichette said, per The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. "Just dealing with everything. New teammates. New organization. Staff. New fan base. Just everything, I think."
Bichette has played in all 46 games for the 20-26 Mets, who are starting to build momentum after taking two out of three games in this weekend's Subway Series against the crosstown rival New York Yankees. However, Bichette hasn't joined the team in turning the corner, as he's batting just .210 with a .531 OPS, the fifth-worst mark in the league.

"I don't know if it's been the toughest stretch of my career," Bichette said. "But it's up there."
Bichette went on to admit that he's been pressing while trying to live up to his gaudy contract. The Mets have also dealt with injuries to key players like star outfielder Juan Soto, shortstop Francisco Lindor, first baseman Jorge Polanco, center fielder Luis Robert Jr. and catcher Francisco Alvarez, which has only added to the pressure Bichette has felt to perform.
"Being on a new team, I just want to help the team, first off," Bichette said. "But I think naturally I want to impress people and show people what I can do. Not being able to do that is tough."
Bichette will try to get back on track when the Mets open a four-game series against the Washington Nationals (23-24) on Monday night.
