Commanders Reportedly Still Target WR2 Opposite Terry McLaurin After NFL Draft amid Aiyuk Rumors
The Washington Commanders could still be looking to bolster their wide receiver room outside Terry McLaurin amid the ongoing stalemate between Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers.
ESPN's John Keim reported Thursday that "multiple league sources, as well as former coaches and executives, acknowledge the Commanders could use someone else alongside McLaurin."
The Commanders have been tied to an interest in Aiyuk, who last played in 2024 before being sidelined by a knee injury and a split with the Niners organization.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
ESPN's Dan Graziano recently reported that Aiyuk has stayed put in San Francisco because the Niners want to trade him, while teams like the Commanders are waiting to see if he will be cut so they can sign him without surrending draft capital.
The Commanders have also been connected to wide receiver Stefon Diggs following his March release by the New England Patriots.
Diggs, who was born and went to college at nearby Maryland, told 106.7 The Fan in May he has been speaking with Commanders players "a little bit" and that he would "see down the pipe over these next couple months" about joining the team in free agency.
The Commanders are currently heading into the 2026 season with McLaurin on top of their depth chart in front of 2026 third-rounder Antonio Williams and third-year wideout Luke McCaffrey.
McLaurin missed seven games last season with a right quad injury and recorded a career-low 58.2 receiving yards per game when available amid inconsistency and injury struggles from second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels.
The Commanders finished the season ranked 24th in total passing yards and 26th in passing touchdowns. Should general manager Adam Peters ultimately decide to add another wide receiver, doing so sooner rather than later could be key to helping that new player build chemistry with Daniels under new offensive coordinator David Blough.
Should McLaurin remain alone on top of the depth chart heading into training camp, Williams could be tasked with taking on an even bigger role in his rookie season as Blough and the Commanders look to help Daniels bounce back in his third NFL campaign.
