Francisco Alvarez Injured, Latest Updates on Mets Star After Exiting vs. Tigers
New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez left in the sixth inning of the team's matchup with the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday due a knee injury.
According to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, Alvarez suffered a right knee injury while swinging at a pitch and is set to undergo further testing on Wednesday.
He went 1-for-2 with one RBI prior to his departure.
Alvarez has proven that he can be a productive piece of New York's lineup when healthy, amassing 52 home runs and 152 RBI throughout 340 career games with the club.
Availability has been an issue for him throughout his Mets tenure, though.
Alvarez missed time during the 2024 season due to a torn ligament in his left thumb before making just 76 appearances in 2025 while navigating through a fractured left hamate bone as well as a torn UCL in his right thumb.
Still, the 24-year-old was healthy throughout the start of his 2026 campaign and suited up in 37 of the Mets' first 41 games.
This season, Alvarez is hitting .241 with four homers and five doubles to go along with 10 RBI. He's also posted a .710 OPS.
The Mets have been hit hard by injuries this year, as star shortstop Francisco Lindor hasn't played since April 22 due to a calf strain. Starting pitcher Kodai Senga and outfielder Luis Robert Jr. also remain out with lumbar spine inflammation and lumbar spine disc herniation, respectively.
New York has struggled to begin the 2026 season, sitting at the bottom of the National League East standings with a 15-25 record heading into Tuesday's action.
If Alvarez is forced to miss time, Luis Torrens should see more playing time after replacing him against Detroit.
