Peterson spent 10 of his 15 seasons in the NFL with the Vikings, earning an MVP award for his 2012 campaign.

Mark Wilf, Minnesota's co-owner and team president, congratulated Peterson for his latest accolade.

"From the moment we selected Adrian in the 2007 NFL Draft, he proved to be a transformational player for the Minnesota Vikings," Wilf said, per Monday's announcement. "His historic 2012 MVP season will be rightfully remembered by fans, but Adrian's consistent production over 10 seasons in Minnesota is what firmly established him as an all-time Viking and one of the greatest to ever play this game. It will be a privilege to welcome Adrian into the Vikings Ring of Honor this year, and we know it's a matter of time before we are also celebrating his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame."

Peterson was selected by the Vikings with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft and immediately stood out, rushing for 1,341 yards and 12 touchdowns during his inaugural season before earning Offensive Rookie of the Year recognition.

He went on to record seven Pro Bowl nods with the Vikings, which included his MVP campaign in which he amassed 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

Peterson's 2,097 rush yards in 2012 marked the second-highest total for a single season in NFL history.

He ranks No. 1 on Minnesota's all-time rushing leaderboards with 2,418 attempts, 11,747 yards and 92 touchdowns. Peterson was also efficient despite his large workload, averaging 4.9 yards per carry during his Vikings tenure.

Now, he'll be the 29th member of Minnesota's Ring of Honor.
