Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski Makes MLB History vs. Yankees With Fastest Pitches Ever Thrown By Starter

Julia StumbaughMay 8, 2026

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski made baseball history in his Friday night start against the visiting New York Yankees.

Misiorowski recorded the five fastest pitches ever thrown by a starter in his first inning against the Yankees, according to the Brewers.

All other starters have combined for three total pitches over 103 miles per hour over the regular season or playoffs since tracking started in 2008, per MLB's Sarah Langs.

Those three pitches were recorded by Jordan Hicks (103.1 and 103.2 miles per hour on July 12, 2022) and Justin Verlander (103.1 miles per hour in Game 5 of the 2011 ALCS), per Langs.

Misiorowski threw six pitches over Hicks' previous record of 103.2 miles per hour on Friday night.

That's not the only history Misiorowski made in the first inning. He also recorded the two fastest strikeout pitches by any starter in the tracking era against Ben Rice (103.3 mph) and Trent Grisham (102.8 miles mph), per Langs.

That broke Misiorowski's own record, which he set in April with a 102.7 mph strikeout pitch against the Pittsburgh Pirates' Oneil Cruz.

The previous record was set by the Detroit Lions' Tarik Skubal with a 102.6 mph strikeout pitch in May 2025.

Misiorowski didn't slow down in the second inning, which he finished by taking on the Yankees' No. 6 prospect Spencer Jones in his MLB debut.

Jones faced two 103.6 mile-per-hour pitches before he struck out to end the second frame.

Misiorowski had relied on his four-seam fastball for 61.4 percent of his pitches heading into Friday, an increase from 55.2 percent usage of the pitch last season, per Baseball Savant.

He headed into Friday having struck out 59 batters while allowing just 23 hits, 15 walks and 12 earned runs through his first seven starts of the season.
