Carson Beck Talks Approach to Cardinals QB Battle After NFL Draft, 'Just Go Play Ball'

Timothy RappMay 7, 2026

Carson Beck has a very real shot at earning playing time in the 2026 season, even amidst reports that Jacoby Brissett is currently considered the QB1 for the Arizona Cardinals despite his ongoing contract stand-off with the team.

But Beck isn't getting ahead of himself.

"The most important thing for me is, [first] get in the building, start meeting with the coaches, going over the playbook. Learn the guys around me. Build relationships, start to connect with them, be myself," he told reporters Thursday. "And then, just go play ball. Have fun, enjoy the process. But again, just try to improve, get better everyday, and if I continue to do that I think we'll see where that takes me."

Beck, 24, is no stranger to entering a new situation. After four seasons with Georgia, he joined Miami last season and promptly led the Hurricanes to the College Football Playoff and National Championship Game, falling short to Fernando Mendoza and Indiana.

After throwing for 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for Miami, the Cardinals made him a third-round selection at April's NFL draft. While Brissett may enter training camp as the presumed starter, it wouldn't make much sense for the Cardinals to go the entire season without seeing what they have in Beck, especially considering next year's draft class is strong at the quarterback position.

If Beck looks like a capable starter, the Cardinals can focus on other positions at the draft. If he struggles, they'll be a primary candidate to address the position. But they aren't going to have a great idea either way if he spends the entire season behind Brissett on the depth chart.
