Tyler Glasnow Injury, Latest News on Dodgers Star's Status, Timeline to Return

Joseph ZuckerMay 8, 2026

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow has been placed on the injured list with low back spasms, the team announced Friday.

Glasnow exited Wednesday's game against the Houston Astros while warming up before the second inning. The team said he was experiencing lower back pain.

Glasnow said after the game that he experienced a back spasm, while manager Dave Roberts let it be known that he didn't anticipate a trip to the injured list:

Jack Dreyer replaced the 2024 All-Star, who recorded his 1,000th career strikeout in the opening frame.

Glasnw's injury comes as L.A. is preparing to work Blake Snell back in the rotation. The Dodgers thought the unit would soon be back to full strength, and now a different key cog is missing.

Glasnow was off to a strong start prior to Wednesday. He was 3-0 with a 2.56 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 38.2 innings. His 1.1 WAR trails only Shohei Ohtani among Dodgers pitchers at FanGraphs.

Durability has long been a concern for the right-hander. He has thrown 100-plus innings only three times in his career and never gone past 134. In 2025, he was limited to 90.1 innings over 18 appearances because of shoulder trouble.

Back discomfort at least doesn't ring the same kind of alarm bells that another shoulder issue or an elbow problem would.

Lower back tightness also sent Glasnow to the injured list midway through 2024, and he wound up missing around three weeks.

Snell's eventual return should soften the blow with Glasnow headed for another IL stint.
