Garrett Nussmeier Hyped by Rival CFB Coach After Chiefs Get QB in 2026 NFL Draft
LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier fell all the way to the seventh round in the 2026 NFL draft before the Kansas City Chiefs selected him with the 249th pick, but some still expect him to have a promising career.
ESPN's Adam Rittenberg spoke to a defensive coordinator who faced Nussmeier and had high praise for the 24-year-old.
"Who knows why he fell so far, but I studied him and that kid is a stud," the DC said of Nussmeier. "Obviously, didn't have a great season, but he's a good player."

Nussmeier was projected as one of the top quarterbacks in this year's draft class prior to the 2025 season, but he dealt with multiple injuries throughout the year that hindered his performance. To make matters worse, a cyst on his spine was discovered during testing at the NFL scouting combine, raising further questions about his long-term health.
Still, the Chiefs opted to take a chance on Nussmeier with their final draft pick. B/R's Brent Sobleski graded the selection an A.
Nussmeier will have the chance to develop under head coach Andy Reid while playing behind veteran quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Justin Fields, so it seems that he's landed in an ideal situation in Kansas City.
