Fernando Mendoza Says He Has 'Long Way to Go' Learning This Aspect of Raiders Offense
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Fernando Mendoza is adjusting to the team's offense as he prepares for his rookie season.
Mendoza said Saturday that he still has a "long way to go" when it comes to learning to play under center, according to Sam Warren of The Athletic.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft has been taking snaps from his centers in the team hotel after rookie minicamp to help get up to speed, per Warren.
Las Vegas' rookie minicamp started on Friday and will continue through Sunday.
Expectations are high for Mendoza, who earned Heisman Trophy honors during his junior season at Indiana in 2025.
He completed 72.0 percent of his throws for 3,535 yards and 41 touchdowns compared to six interceptions, averaging 9.3 yards per attempt. Mendoza also made plays with his legs, picking up 276 yards and seven scores on the ground.
He led the Hoosiers to a national title, finishing with a perfect 16-0 record.
Now, Mendoza will look to help the Raiders improve upon their 3-14 finish last season.
