New Mets Trade Rumors on Search for 'Offensive Help' amid 10-21 Start to MLB Season

Julia StumbaughMay 1, 2026

The New York Mets are "searching for offensive help" after the third-worst start in franchise history, ESPN's Jorge Castillo reported Friday.

Castillo reported the Mets, who fell to 10-21 with a Thursday night loss to the Washington Nationals, have "already reached out to teams" about potential trades.

The Mets are willing to deal any starting pitcher other than Nolan McLean, Freddy Peralta or Clay Holmes, Castillo reported.

Despite heading into the 2026 season with the highest total payroll in baseball, the Mets have recorded the fifth-fewest hits in MLB heading into May.

Peralta, McLean and Holmes are the only starters who have recorded wins so far this season for the Mets.

David Peterson currently leads MLB with four losses, although as of December The Athletic's Tim Britton and Will Sammon reported he was "generating interest" on the trade market.

The Mets have another starter available in Kodai Senga, although his trade value could be hurt by his injury history. Senga has struggled with injuries throughout his Mets career and was recently placed on the 15-day injured list due to lumbar spine inflammation.

Sean Manaea, a career starter who transitioned to the Mets' bullpen this season, is another potential rotation player who could be floated as a trade piece.

President of baseball operations David Stearns may be testing the market to see if a player like Peterson, Senga or Manaea could help provide a boost to a team that has combined for a .227 batting average through 31 games.

The Mets underwent significant roster turnover this offseason that saw the team part ways with some of last season's top producers including Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo.

The bullpen has also struggled in the wake of Edwin Díaz's departure for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Mets relievers have combined for a 4.06 ERA so far this season, per FanGraphs.

Stearns will hope any roster changes are enough to spark both more production and defense from the new-look 2026 roster as the Mets look to improve from what is currently the worst record in MLB.
