The Vezina Trophy is going to a new goaltender this season.

Two-time reigning Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck will not be in the running for the award.

The Vezina Trophy is awarded annually to the NHL's top goaltender as voted on by general managers.

Vasilevskiy, a six-time finalist, won the trophy in 2019.

Sorokin finished as runner-up for the award in 2023, while Swayman is a first-time finalist.

Vasilevskiy helped the Lightning qualify for a ninth straight trip to the postseason by leading the NHL with 39 wins.

He finished the regular season with a .911 save percentage and 2.31 goals against average while holding opponents to two goals or fewer in 35 of 58 starts.

Sorokin led the NHL with seven shutouts despite playing for an Islanders team that allowed the most high-danger shots against in the NHL last season, per MoneyPuck.

The Isles ultimately fell short of the playoffs as Sorokin finished the campaign with a .906 save percentage and .268 goals against average while recording 16 games with at least 30 saves.

Swayman helped lead the Bruins back into the playoffs with a 2.71 goals against average and .908 save percentage.

He made a total of 1,426 saves, the fifth-highest total in the league, on his way to earning a career-best 31 wins.

This trio of finalists features two goaltenders who fought one another this season in Swayman and Vasilevskiy, who dropped the gloves in a February Stadium Series matchup between the Bruins and Lightning.

Hellebuyck, who has taken home the award in each of the last two seasons, did not make the cut after posting a career-low .895 save percentage behind the struggling Winnipeg Jets.

Sorokin could be the first Islanders goaltender to win the award since Billy Smith in 1982. Swayman could be the first since his former tandem partner Linus Ullmark in 2023, while Vasilevskiy could follow up his own victory in 2019.

Finalists for other NHL awards will be announced throughout the next week, continuing Thursday with the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy finalists and Friday with the three coaches nominated for the Jack Adams Award.
