Bills 2026 NFL Schedule Released for Josh Allen, Joe Brady's Super Bowl Push

Mike ChiariMay 14, 2026

Perhaps no team in the NFL has been as consistently good as the Buffalo Bills over the past seven seasons, so it comes as no surprise that reaching and winning a Super Bowl remains their primary goal entering the 2026 season.

The NFL released the schedule for all 32 teams on Thursday, with the Seahawks set to open their regular season on Sept. 13 against the Houston Texans.

While Buffalo has made seven consecutive postseason appearances, it has been unable to get over the hump and into the biggest game of the year during superstar quarterback Josh Allen's tenure.

Reaching that point in 2026 won't be easy given the star-studded schedule the Bills have to traverse, but here is a look at what Buffalo's path to the playoffs will look like this coming season.

Analysis

The Bills' streak of five consecutive AFC East titles came to an end last season at the hands of the New England Patriots, but it still feels like they're playing a first-place schedule in 2026 at first glance.

Of Buffalo's 17 regular-season games, eight will be played against teams that reached the playoffs last season, and several others will come against teams that are widely expected to bounce back and return to postseason play.

That includes the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions, all of whom are home opponents for Buffalo in 2026.

While the Bills have no shortage of experience playing big games against Kansas City, Baltimore and the like, those teams will have to deal with a new-look Bills squad next season.

After falling to the Denver Broncos in overtime of the AFC Divisional Round of the playoffs, the Bills fired longtime head coach Sean McDermott and replaced him with offensive coordinator Joe Brady.

Buffalo will also run an entirely different defense next season than the one McDermott had installed, as the team hired former University of Wisconsin defensive coordinator and Broncos assistant head coach Jim Leonhard as DC.

On top of that, the Bills made tons of personnel moves, including acquiring Allen a true No. 1 wide receiver by landing DJ Moore in a trade with the Chicago Bears.

The Bills also signed pass-rusher Bradley Chubb, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and cornerback Dee Alford, and selected pass-rusher T.J. Parker, cornerback Davison Igbinosun, offensive lineman Jude Bowry and wide receiver Skyler Bell in the draft.

Perhaps most importantly, the Bills are returning a core led by Allen, the NFL's reigning rushing champion in running back James Cook and a host of defensive contributors such as Greg Rousseau, Ed Oliver, Deone Walker, Christian Benford and Cole Bishop.

Pivotal Matchups

There don't figure to be many gimmes on Buffalo's 2026 schedule, making every game hugely important in terms of the Bills' AFC East title and Super Bowl contention.

Given that neither the New York Jets nor Miami Dolphins are expected to be in the mix for a playoff spot, the biggest games on Buffalo's 2026 schedule are likely their two matchups with the Patriots.

The Bills and Patriots split last season, and New England went on to win the AFC East and reach the Super Bowl. If the Bills return to the top of the division in 2026, it could go a long way toward bolstering their Super Bowl hopes.

Another massive game for the Bills will be their meeting with the Broncos, who ended their 2025 campaign in the playoffs.

The Bills and Broncos were evenly matched, and Buffalo seemingly had Denver beaten on a couple of occasions. The Broncos ultimately prevailed, but the Bills can erase some of the bad memories of that loss with a win during the upcoming season.

Buffalo's home meetings with the Chiefs and Ravens feel like the other biggest games on the schedule even though neither Kansas City nor Baltimore reached the playoffs last season.

Both teams dealt with injuries to superstar quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson last season, plus they played inconsistently even when their signal-callers were healthy.

Both teams are widely expected to be back in the playoff mix next season, but if the Bills beat them, it will make their paths harder, and it will also cement the Bills as the best team among the old guard in the AFC.
