Carlos Mendoza Addresses Hot Seat Talks After Alex Cora, Rob Thomson Firings Amid Mets Struggles
New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza addressed his job security amid the team's disappointing 9-19 start to the 2026 season.
"I'm aware of it," Mendoza said Tuesday, per ESPN's Jorge Castillo. "Not going to run away from it. But the one thing I can do is just continue to show up here and get the best out of my players. That's my responsibility, where I'm spending all my energy. But, obviously, I understand the whole situation."
Multiple MLB teams have already made changes at manager this year, as the Boston Red Sox fired Alex Cora on Sunday before the Philadelphia Phillies parted ways with Rob Thomson on Tuesday.

Buzz: Phillies Made 'Intense' Push for Cora
After making a National League Championship Series appearance with Mendoza in 2024, the Mets narrowly missed the postseason last year.
This season, they sit in a tie with the Phillies at the bottom of the NL East standings and went through a 12-game losing streak from April 8 through April 21.
Still, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns expressed support for Mendoza when speaking to reporters on April 17.
"I think Mendy is doing a really good job," Stearns said at the time, via SNY's Danny Abriano. "I think he's putting our players in position to succeed. He's enormously consistent."
"I think both in terms of how he's managing in the clubhouse, how he's getting guys to the right pockets -- whether it's matchups out of the bullpen, the right matchups in games," he added. "I think he's doing a good job."
The Mets will look to get back on track during a matchup with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.
