Diego Pavia Going Undrafted Before Ravens Contract is a 'Wake Up Call' for QB, Maxx Crosby Says
Las Vegas Raiders star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby weighed in on former Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia going undrafted before signing a contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
"He's a smaller guy, he's undersized and obviously he's had his fair share of stuff off the field," Crosby said Tuesday on his podcast, The Rush with Maxx Crosby (42:06 mark). "You know what I mean? That hasn't helped his cause. From the Heisman thing to quarterback being out at the bars and doing all of the stuff like that, NFL teams hate that stuff. When you have maturity issues, in the view of the NFL, and then you have the size disadvantage as well, I think it just makes a lot of sense why he didn't get drafted. Me personally, I do think he's a dog. I think he can play the game at a high level, he was a Heisman finalist for a reason. But I do think it's a wake up call, you know what I mean?"
"I really do root for him," he added. "I wish him the best. I want to see him have success, but I think it's just a reality check of what this league is."
Pavia helped lead Vanderbilt to a 10-3 record during the 2025 season, throwing for 3,539 yards and 29 touchdowns while getting picked off eight times. He also rushed for 862 yards and 10 scores.
While Pavia finished No. 2 in Heisman Trophy voting, the league was reportedly concerned with his negative reaction to becoming the Heisman runner-up.
He's also shorter than most starting quarterbacks, as he was listed at 5'10" and 203 pounds during Vanderbilt's pro day.
Still, it seems as though Pavia will have an opportunity to compete for a reserve role behind Lamar Jackson in Baltimore next season.
