Charlie McAvoy Says Bruins Should Be 'Embarrassed' by 6-1 Loss to Sabres in NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs

Andrew PetersApr 26, 2026

The Boston Bruins are on the brink of elimination after a 6-1 rout against the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday.

Defenseman Charlie McAvoy didn't sugarcoat how he thinks he and his team should feel after the crushing loss.

"Man to man in here, if we're not f--king embarrassed by what just happened, then I don't know what to say," McAvoy said, per ESPN's Kristen Shilton. "We have everything to play for from here, and we know we're such a better team than what we just did."

The Sabres dominated the Bruins from the start, scoring four goals unanswered in the first period. From there, they were able to put it into cruise control and jump out to a 3-1 series lead.

"Wasted opportunity. Unacceptable," right wing David Pastrnak said. "We expect better from ourselves. We are better than that, and we can't show up like this. The first period is so f--king important. You can't win and lose games [like that] and show up like that in the first period, it's unacceptable."

Now, the Bruins have to overcome both a 3-1 series deficit and the embarrassment that comes with such a blowout loss. To make things even more difficult, they'll be on the road on Tuesday for Game 5.
