Yankees' Aaron Boone Reveals Alex Cora Conversation, Had 'Really Good Talk' After Red Sox Firing
After being fired by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, Alex Cora got some words of encouragement from a division rival.
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he had a "really good talk" with Cora following his firing.
"I think somebody of Alex's stature in the game, and obviously being a division rival and our chief rival, obviously caught us all off guard, shook the world — or shook us a little bit, like, 'Who saw that kind of shakeup coming at this point?'" Boone told reporters on Sunday. "He's going to be fine and great. He'll have many opportunities to do whatever he wants moving forward."

Ex-Player's Reaction to Firing 🤢
Boone and Cora know each other well, having coached in the same division for eight years. Still, the conversation likely doesn't make the dismissal any easier.
The firing of Cora, along with five other staff members, came after a 10-17 start to the 2026 campaign. The timing was a bit confusing, as Boston had just come off a 17-1 rout of the Baltimore Orioles.
Nonetheless, the front office felt it was time for a change. Worcester Red Sox manager Chad Tracy will take over as interim manager as the Red Sox seek their next skipper.
