Giants Draft Malachi Fields After Trade, Fans React to New Weapon for Jaxson Dart Next to Nabers

The New York Giants added Notre Dame wide receiver Malachi Fields with the No. 74 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft on Friday.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Giants traded up to select Fields in a deal with the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland received the No. 105 pick and the No. 145 selection to go along with a 2027 fourth-round pick in exchange for No. 74.

With Fields set to join a Giants passing attack headlined by quarterback Jaxson Dart and star receiver Malik Nabers, fans and pundits reacted to the move.

Fields spent the first four seasons of his college career at Virginia, surpassing 800 receiving yards in each of his final two years with the school.

He transferred to Notre Dame ahead of his 2025 campaign, amassing 630 yards and five touchdowns during his lone year with the Fighting Irish. Fields excelled as a deep threat, averaging 17.5 yards per reception.

The 22-year-old went on to record a 38-inch vertical as well as a 10'4" broad jump at the 2026 scouting combine.

Fields was listed as the No. 11 wide receiver and No. 51 overall prospect on the final big board from Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department.

B/R NFL Scout Dame Parson compared Fields to Denver Broncos receiver Courtland Sutton in his scouting report.

"Malachi Fields is a talented playmaker who fits the profile of a prototypical X-receiver," Parson wrote. "The combination of size, strength, and athleticism makes him a difficult receiver to defend."

Fields will join Nabers, Darius Slayton, Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III in New York's receiving corps.
