Malachi Fields NFL Draft 2026 Scouting Report for New York Giants WR
The New York Giants selected Notre Dame WR Malachi Fields with the No. 74 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft.
Malachi Fields is a talented playmaker who fits the profile of a prototypical X-receiver.
The combination of size, strength, and athleticism makes him a difficult receiver to defend.
Fields spent four seasons in Virginia, showcasing his consistency as a pass-catcher. He transferred to Notre Dame last offseason. He is a former 3-star recruit in the 2021 class.

Where He Wins
2 of 5
- Fields has outstanding leaping ability and body control to win contested catches. He dominates defenders at the catch point with aggression and fully extends his frame.
- He offers more fluidity and agility than meets the eye. Fields can take short passes and gain yards after the catch. He has quick feet and uses a tight spin maneuver to evade incoming defenders.
- His ball skills are incredible; if the ball enters his area code, he brings it in. This makes him a difficult cover in the red zone on fade and back shoulder fade routes.
- Plus-level run blocker who uses his frame and grip strength to maintain control of the defender.
- He settles into the soft spots in the zone well. As an outside receiver, Fields works into the hole versus cover 2. With his size, he takes advantage of the void on the sideline for chunk plays.
Areas of Improvement
3 of 5
- Fields is not a dynamic route runner and can struggle to uncover from man coverage. This emphasizes the importance of dominating the catch point.
- He lacks explosiveness and top-end speed to threaten and pull away from defenders vertically down the field.
