The Miami Dolphins' rebuild will start on the offensive line.

The team selected Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor with the No. 12 overall pick after swinging a trade with the Dallas Cowboys to move down one spot.

Fans and pundits reacted to the pick in the immediate aftermath:

Proctor ranked No. 33 on the B/R NFL Scouting Department's final big board and ranked as the No. 2 offensive tackle.

B/R's Brandon Thorne called Proctor "a mountain of a man with rare size, natural power and arguably the best physical traits in the class. However, his top-heavy play style and inconsistent technique lead to too many clean losses—especially on true island reps where rushers can force him to open or overextend. The flashes suggest a high ceiling, but the gap between his elite traits and current technical foundation creates a low floor, at least initially, leaving him with a Round 2 grade on my board despite likely Round 1 draft capital. A move inside to guard may ultimately unlock his best football."

The Dolphins had a lot of needs on the roster (and will have a chance to further address them with the No. 30 overall selection), so they could have gone a number of directions in the first round.

Ultimately, they chose to bolster in the trenches and support new quarterback Malik Willis. Perhaps getting him more playmakers to pair with De'Von Achane will be next on the docket.

But for now, addressing the offensive line made a lot of sense.
