New Giants Trade Rumors on Kayvon Thibodeaux After Arvell Reese NFL Draft Pick
The New York Giants don't plan to trade defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux after selecting Ohio State edge-rusher Arvell Reese with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Ian O'Connor of The Athletic reported March 8 that the Giants trading Thibodeaux was "a 50-50 proposition" since they "think he's a pretty damn good football player despite his declining production."
Thibodeaux is entering the final season of his rookie contract, as the Giants picked up his fifth-year option in April 2025.
New York selected him with the No. 5 overall choice in the 2022 draft and he went on to have a promising inaugural season, finishing No. 4 in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
Thibodeaux continued to excel during his 2023 campaign, racking up 16 quarterback hits and 11.5 sacks in 17 games.
His production dipped in 2024, recording just 5.5 sacks, before putting together a disappointing 2025 season by amassing a mere 2.5 sacks across 10 appearances.
With his impending free agency and the introduction of Reese, it's understandable if New York chose to part ways with Thibodeaux on the trade market.
That doesn't seem to be the case, though.
Still, Reese should provide a boost to the Giants' pass rush as a rookie.
He's coming off an impressive junior season with the Buckeyes, finishing with 69 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and two passes defended in 14 games.
