WWE Armchair Booking: How to Maximize 'Divas Revolution' Storyline

The WWE's unfolding "Divas Revolution" storyline has the potential to create big matches, moments and momentum for the women's division.

The key to that is to revolve the narrative around the Divas Championship. Use Nikki Bella's title as the symbol of her dominance, and when someone strips it from her, that should signify the crumbling of an empire.

Just having longer matches and some of NXT's most talented prospects in the fold isn't enough to lead to an enduring, entertaining women's division. WWE needs to have this angle bring about something memorable, something that elevates everyone involved.

In the course of these three warring factions going after each other's throats, newcomers Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Charlotte should look like major players in the division going forward. The audience's dislike for the Bellas should grow.

Set the stage for plenty of high-stakes collisions between these women and wait for the dynamite to go off.

The Impending Explosion 

On Raw, Nikki brags backstage about how she could whip any member of the Submission Sorority. Becky Lynch steps up, saying that she would break Nikki's arm and gladly take her title from her.

Alicia Fox accepts the challenge for Nikki. The champ doesn't want to weasel out after that but is clearly annoyed with Fox, clearly unsure of how she will do against Lynch.

She has reason to worry. Lynch dominates their title match. She flings the champion around and sends her reeling with a flurry of high-impact moves. It takes Brie slipping Nikki a pair of brass knuckles for the titleholder to keep her prize.

After Nikki's controversial win, Lynch is out cold. Charlotte tends to her fallen friend. Paige gripes at the referee and barks at Nikki. 

Nikki grabs a mic and begins to boast about her title reign's growing length, about how she's approaching AJ Lee's record. "No one can stop me. No one can stop the Bellas," she says.

When Lynch is on her feet again, leaning on Charlotte for support, Submission Sorority and the Bellas argue. Team B.A.D. saunter out, stepping in between the two bickering teams.

Banks demands a title shot. Naomi wants one as well. "The little crew of freaks didn't get the job done. It's our turn," Banks says.

Tamina Snuka pushing aside Lynch kicks off a full-scale brawl. All nine women slug it out, fists flying, kicks drumming against flesh.

Officials, security and eventually The Authority have to separate them. Stephanie McMahon later says that we can't have this kind of chaos on the show. The only way to settle this is for all three teams to meet at SummerSlam.

SummerSlam Showdown

Team B.A.D., Team Bella and Submission Sorority all meet in a Triple Threat Elimination match. 

It's a unique format that opens the door for a variety of dramatic moments. And with every woman from each trio involved, opportunity to shine is everywhere.

This bout is a shot to play up the Bellas' dominance and loose moral code. Fox pins Lynch with her foot on the ropes. Behind the referee's back, Nikki lands a chair shot on Snuka to eliminate her.

Paige and Banks' battle gets so intense that they roll out of the ring and into the stands while slugging it out. They pound on each other with hard right hands as their partners scream for them to get back in and the referee counts to 10.

That leaves just Naomi and Charlotte against Team Bella.

The Bellas beat up on the former and then move on to the latter. The heel team mocks Charlotte as they take turns stomping her into the mat. She later makes a mighty comeback. She charges back, pinning Fox and forcing Brie to tap out.

Nikki wins eventually, though, after Charlotte has nothing left in the proverbial tank.

In this scenario, the Bellas remain the team to chase. Using heel tactics to win angers both of their opponents and the audience. The drive to end their reign is even stronger.

The Climb to Contention

Triple H announces on the next Raw that the women's division is up in the air. He says he was impressed with a lot of the performances he saw last night but isn't sure who deserves to face Nikki next.

The solution he offers is a No. 1 contender's tournament. The early rounds will be on Raw while the semi-finals and finals will be a WWE Network exclusive a la King of the Ring.

It's an eight-woman tourney. With Fox and Brie not wanting to compete against their stablemate, that leaves two open spots after everyone from Team B.A.D. and Submission Sorority enter the field. Natalya returns to fill one. Bayley visits from NXT to take the other.

The first-round matchups could be as follows:

• Bayley vs. Sasha Banks
• Natalya vs. Paige
• Becky Lynch vs. Naomi
• Tamina Snuka vs. Charlotte

That lineup promises to produce something excellent. Paige and Natalya would be a great match. Bayley and Banks have plenty of NXT animosity to build on. 

Charlotte and Paige both make it to the finals, pitting two teammates against each other. 

The battle gets intense at times, but they remain friends afterward. Charlotte outlasts Paige. She shakes Paige's hand after the hard-fought victory.

Changing of the Guard

WWE now has a Nikki vs. Charlotte feud to play with, compete with the subplot of the two stables clashing as well. 

Team Bella tries to injure Charlotte before the title match. Lynch and Paige are there, though, to fend them off.

The story leading up to the fight paints a potential Charlotte win as the Bella regime getting upended. There is talk of Nikki's dominance and what this new, young upstart can do to take her down.

Charlotte wins a grueling match at Night of Champions. Paige and Lynch celebrate with her as Nikki pouts.

The company's options are plentiful at this point. Infighting between the Bellas after the loss could lead to Fox attacking the sisters and joining Team B.A.D. Banks and Paige could use their brawl from SummerSlam as a foundation of their own rivalry.

And the overarching narrative in the division is that all the heels are now chasing Charlotte. There's a new queen sitting in the throne, and it's going to take a hell of an effort to take her out.

WWE would have a top-notch wrestler to build around, faction animosity to exploit and a bounty of narratives to explore.
