David Bailey Reacts to Jets Canceling Top 30 Visit in New Video amid NFL Mock Draft Predictions

Scott PolacekApr 22, 2026

The New York Jets turned heads earlier this month when they canceled their top-30 visit with Texas Tech pass-rusher David Bailey, but he explained he has still had positive interactions with the AFC East team.

"It's been good, man," he told reporters Wednesday when asked about those interaction with the Jets. "... They canceled my 30 visit, so I wasn't able to get around the facility and have an in-depth conversation with all the staff. But I had a great interaction with them at the combine and FaceTime calls."

The decision to cancel the visit stood out since the Jets could be targeting a pass-rusher with the No. 2 overall pick in Thursday's draft and did visit with Ohio State's Arvell Reese, among others.

New York was an ugly 31st in the league in sacks last season, which is a major reason it was also 31st in the league in points allowed per game. Improving that pass-rush would have a multiplier effect and help the secondary as well since it wouldn't have to guard opposing receivers as long.

Given that as the backdrop, Bailey or Reese seems like the logical choice.

Yet the decision to cancel the visit doesn't guarantee the Jets will take Reese. Perhaps they saw enough from Bailey during their other interactions that they felt they didn't need to use one of the visits on the Texas Tech star and instead wanted to focus their pre-draft energy elsewhere.

Jets general manager Darren Mougey downplayed the canceled visit when he told reporters they already interacted with Bailey a number of times:

The latest mock draft from B/R's NFL Scouting Department projected the Jets to take Reese at No. 2 overall with Bailey then going No. 3 to the Arizona Cardinals. It underscores how close they are, although Reese's ceiling may be higher as a versatile defender who can attack off the edge or play linebacker.

B/R's NFL Scouting Department ranked Reese as the fourth-best overall player in the draft and Bailey as the seventh-best in its latest big board of prospects.

With the Las Vegas Raiders widely expected to select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the top pick, all eyes will be on the Jets at No. 2. Their decision could have a domino effect on the teams below them, and it could still be Bailey even though he didn't officially visit.
