'This Feeling Sucks,' Francisco Lindor Reacts to Mets' 11-Game Losing Streak in Emotional Video
The New York Mets have lost 11 straight after falling 2-1 to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, and it's taking its toll.
"This feeling sucks. It's not a good feeling," Francisco Lindor acknowledged while speaking to reporters. "We're professionals, and we've got to find a way out of it. We've gotta do whatever it takes to end up on top after 27 outs, sometimes 30 outs. It's not a good feeling, but nobody here is handing their heads. Everybody's got their head up high, we're fighting for each other."
The Mets are averaging just 1.7 runs per game in the losing streak, have been shut out three times in that stretch and have scored two or fewer runs nine times during their recent woes (and 12 times overall this season).
The offense has been shockingly poor to start the season, given the presence of players like Lindor, Juan Soto (who is currently injured), Bo Bichette and Marcus Semien, among others. But the production hasn't followed.
"There were guys today that had good at-bats," Lindor said. "Guys that put quality at-bats together. It's just unlucky. [Bichette] today, he hit two baseballs over 105 mph, you had [Luis Robert Jr.] who hit a couple baseballs over 98-100 mph. [Semien] had good, quality at-bats, MJ [Melendez] had good, quality at-bats. But in big situations, we haven't come through. Sometimes baseball is on your side, and sometimes baseball isn't on our side. [The Cubs] executed with guys in scoring position and we didn't. And I feel like that's been the thing for the past week-and-a-half. We gotta bring it. We gotta continue to bring it day in and day out, no one's going to feel sorry. We can't feel sorry for ourselves, we've got to bring it."
The MLB season is young and the Mets have plenty of time to figure things out, though the hole they are digging for themselves is already substantial. The Mets are currently last in the NL East, 7.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves, and unless they start hitting the gap is going to widen.
