Having already flexed his financial might by handing out several lucrative contracts during his tenure as owner of the New York Mets, Steve Cohen is increasing the team's international presence with a new development facility in the Dominican Republic.

On Thursday, the Mets unveiled the new $10 million facility that includes a turf agility field, suite-style bedrooms for players, educational classrooms, a weight room, hot tubs and cold plunges.

The facility will be used as part of the Mets' in-house training for their international prospects, typically those signed as amateur free agents between the ages of 16-18.

Per MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, the Mets took inspiration from some of the Division 1 college football facilities that have been built in recent years. The club will typically train between 70-120 athletes, depending on the time of the year.

DiComo added the D.R. facility mirrors the $60 million renovation of the Mets' player development complex in Florida. They broke ground on that facility in February, with an expected completion date around the start of spring training next year.

The Mets' current 40-man roster features six players from the Dominican Republic, including Juan Soto and Freddy Peralta. Soto visited their academy in the country last November, providing local baseball and softball teams with new equipment.
