Watch Shohei Ohtani Break Ichiro Suzuki's Record During Dodgers' Wild Win on His Bobblehead Night

Adam WellsApr 11, 2026

On a night when the Los Angeles Dodgers gave out his bobblehead, Shohei Ohtani set a record previously held by Ichiro Suzuki.

The four-time MVP went 1-for-4 with a walk in the Dodgers' 8-7 win over the Texas Rangers, to surpass Suzuki for the longest on-base streak in MLB history by a Japanese-born player at 44 straight games.

Ohtani set the record with his one-out single in the bottom of the fifth.

The bobblehead giveaway is the first of a two-part event commemorating the "Greatest Game Ever" in celebration of Ohtani's legendary performance in Game 4 of the 2025 NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers when he hit three homers and struck out 10 over six shutout innings.

Part two will of the Ohtani "Greatest Game" bobblehead will be handed out prior to the Dodgers' game against the Colorado Rockies on July 8.

Even though Ohtani is often at the center of everything for the Dodgers, Max Muncy stole the show on Friday night with three homers, including a walk-off solo shot in the bottom of the ninth.

The last time Ohtani didn't reach base in a game was against the San Diego Padres on Aug. 23, 2025. He went 0-for-4 in four plate appearances.

There's still a long way to go for Ohtani to break the all-time mark for consecutive games reaching base. That record belongs to Ted Williams, who did it in 84 straight games from July 1 through Sept. 27, 1949.
