Soler and López engaged in a physical altercation in the bottom of the fifth inning. Soler, who homered off López in the first and was hit by a pitch in the third, took exception to a high fastball and started saying something to the Braves starter before walking to the mound.
The situation broke down when Soler charged at López, leading to both benches emptying. The two players took swings at each other, with López at one point throwing a punch while holding a baseball in his hand that clipped Soler's helmet.
"I asked him if everything was OK and the answer he gave me, I didn't like it," Soler told reporters through interpreter Jobel Jiménez after the game. "That's why I went out there."
There was one moment during the fracas when Braves manager Walt Weiss stepped in and wrapped up Soler's legs to get him to the ground when the teams were attempting to break the two men up.
Both Soler and López were ejected from the game. Weiss was not thrown out by the umpire crew. It was the fourth career ejection for Soler and his first since 2023.
