Mike Trout Injured, Latest Updates on Angels Star's Hand and Timeline to Return After HBP

Julia StumbaughApr 5, 2026

Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout did not suffer any broken bones after getting hit in the left hand by a 94.2 mph fastball during Sunday's win over the Seattle Mariners.

Manager Kurt Suzuki told reporters Sunday that X-rays of Trout's hand were negative, per Angels reporter Erica Weston.

Trout is considered day-to-day with a hand contusion, per Suzuki.

Mariners reliever Casey Legumina hit Trout during Sunday's eighth inning. Trout consulted with trainers before coming out of the game in place of pinch runner Oswald Peraza.

MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reported Trout's left hand was "noticeably swollen" after the game, and that Trout had exited because he couldn't get his batting glove over his swollen hand.

"He's relieved the X-rays were negative because the swelling and loud sound when getting hit scared him. Didn't hit the pad," Bollinger wrote.

Trout was just two days removed from his last hit-by-pitch during the Mariners series. He also took contact on a pitch from Bryan Woo in the bottom of Friday's first inning.

The Angels star was visibly frustrated with Woo after taking contact on a second straight pitch above the shoulders, although he told reporters Woo apologized to him later in the game.

Trout also expressed frustration with Legumina's pitch control when speaking to reporters after Sunday's win.

"We know where they're trying to get me out, fastballs up and in, so it's just frustrating," Trout said, per Bollinger. "You know, if you can't control it up there, you shouldn't do it. So it is what it is."

Trout had recorded a hit, a run and struck out twice in four at-bats prior to taking the hit-by-pitch.

The Angels went on to win without him thanks to an 11th-inning walk-off sacrifice fly from Nolan Schanuel.

Trout, 34, is in the eighth season of his 12-year deal with the Angels. He had drawn an MLB-high 11 walks while batting .207 with two home runs and three RBI in the first nine games of the season.

The Angels, which improved to 5-5 with Sunday's win, will now wait to see if Trout is available for the start of their upcoming series against the Atlanta Braves on Monday night. Bryce Teodosio could be a candidate to fill in at center if Trout is forced to miss any time.
