New Aaron Rodgers Rumors on Potential Broncos Interest amid Steelers Buzz in NFL Free Agency
Rumors of the Denver Broncos' interest in Aaron Rodgers were apparently greatly exaggerated.
Per Mike Klis of 9News, there is a "zero percent" chance of the Broncos pursuing Rodgers.
Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports added in no uncertain terms that Rodgers isn't visiting the Broncos.
The rumor appears to have originated with Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, who wrote on Wednesday morning that there was "talk" of the Broncos hosting Rodgers on a visit.
"The motivation comes from the possibility that current starter Bo Nix won't be fully and completely back to 100 percent when Week 1 rolls around," Florio wrote.
Nix missed the AFC Championship Game due to a broken bone in his ankle suffered in the Broncos' win over the Buffalo Bills in the divisional around. He was given a 12-week recovery timeline after undergoing surgery on Jan. 25.
Three days after his surgery, however, Nix told Klis that it was a "typical bone break" and he should be able to start training for the 2026 season within four to six weeks.
Broncos general manager George Paton told Klis on Monday from the NFL meetings in Phoenix that Nix is "ahead of schedule" and should be a full participant for the start of offseason team activities in May.
"He's running, he's jumping. Really proud of how he's attacked rehab. He's done a great job. He'll be ready for OTAs," said Paton.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz added that Nix will have "zero limitations" for OTAs.
Payton gave no indications that anything was wrong with Nix during his media availability from the league meetings on Tuesday. He did say there would be a competition between Sam Ehlinger and Jarrett Stidham for the No. 2 quarterback job going into the 2026 season.
Rodgers has really only ever been connected to the Pittsburgh Steelers since last season ended. Head coach Mike McCarthy said on Monday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show that he has maintained regular contact with Rodgers and they are waiting on the four-time MVP to decide what he wants to do.
"It's a process that he's going through and we've had very positive conversations on a weekly basis," McCarthy said.
The Steelers operated this offseason like they are expecting Rodgers to return. They didn't sign anyone in free agency, nor have they traded for anyone. They could always try to address the position in the draft, but their first pick isn't until No. 21 overall.
As long as Nix's recovery is on track, which all indications suggest it is, there's no reason for the Broncos to be in the market for Rodgers unless they want to see if he would sign up for being a high-level insurance policy on a team that figures to be competing for a Super Bowl next season.
