Barcelona Transfer News: Latest on Gerson and Adama Traore Rumours

Christopher SimpsonAug 6, 2015

Barcelona have opted not to sign Gerson, meaning the Fluminense star will now join Roma instead.

According to Ben Gladwell of ESPN FC, Fluminense's president, Peter Siemsen, told Sofia Miranda and Matheus Frigols of Globoesporte:

"

We've received a formal offer from Roma, which is very good, and we have decided it was right to accept it. Gerson and his father have given the all clear. We've told Barca, who have not taken the option they had on him.

Football journalist Fabrizio Romano expanded on the report:

ESPN FC's Ross Dyer believes the move will be a good one for the 18-year-old, as Roma have a history of acquiring raw talent from South America and refining it:

Gianlucadimarzio.com's David Amoyal has noticed a change in the way Roma conduct transfers as they pursue Juventus:

Thanks to Barca's wealth of options in midfield, which is already set to include Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal in January, Gerson would have found his opportunities to play limited at the Camp Nou and likely would have featured for Barcelona B for the foreseeable future.

However, there is more scope for him to establish a regular place with the Giallorossi as Daniele De Rossi begins to move deeper into his 30s and Kevin Strootman struggles with injury.

Why Barcelona refused to take advantage of their first option is unclear, but in Gerson, Roma have certainly acquired a youngster of great potential.

Be sure to follow the Brazilian's progress in the coming years as he seeks to nail down a starting berth at the Stadio Olimpico.

Adama Traore to Reject Stoke City in Favour of Liverpool

According to Fichajes.net, via Jamie Sanderson of Metro, Barca youngster Adama Traore is still set for a move to Liverpool despite interest from Stoke City and Aston Villa, having "had talks from all three clubs."

Sanderson's report also notes that Traore has a release clause of £4.2 million, meaning any club prepared to meet that value can negotiate a deal with the player.

The winger is a graduate of Barca's revered La Masia academy and demonstrated his immense potential by assisting 14 goals for Barcelona B last season, as well as netting four goals of his own.

As Bleacher Report's own Gianni Verschueren reports, a deal for Traore could well include a buyback clause, meaning the Spaniard could continue his development with Liverpool ahead of a possible return to the Camp Nou if he fulfils his considerable potential.

The 19-year-old will struggle for first-team opportunities for the foreseeable future if he remains with the Blaugrana, so a move to a club such as the Reds will give him the chance to rack up crucial minutes while also playing at a high level.

For Liverpool, Traore represents a promising replacement for Raheem Sterling, one who would likely slot right into coach Brendan Rodgers' side thanks to his "tiki-taka" upbringing in Barcelona.

Expect Traore to impress alongside Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino next season.
