Browns GM Reveals 'Realistic' Plans to Add QB Competition Alongside Shedeur, Watson
Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry discussed the possibility of acquiring another quarterback to compete with Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson for the team's starting job in 2026.
Berry said Sunday that it would be "wholly realistic" for Cleveland to bring a young signal-caller into the competition, according to ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi.
"Our lean would be if we do add someone to the quarterback room, it would be someone who's a younger player most likely," Berry explained, per Oyefusi.
It's understandable that the Browns could add another passer to their current group, as the 2026 outlook for both of their current starting options is uncertain.
Watson missed the entire 2025 season due to his recovery from Achilles surgery, while Sanders threw for a mere 631 yards and two touchdowns compared to seven interceptions across his final four games as a rookie.
Still, Berry praised Cleveland's overall roster and future.
"We'll always do what we think is in the best interest of the organization," Berry said, per Oyefusi. "We really like our core. I think as we look at the team, we have an elite young defense. We have a really rebuilt offensive line. We have nine picks this upcoming draft, and I think seven are in the top 150. Three in the top 40. We have a good offensive young core that we brought in last year. And honestly, as we saw last year, there [is] more than one way to generate assets in the NFL. So we'll always do what's best for the organization, but we feel really good about our roster right now before the draft."
The Browns' defense showed promise in 2025, ranking No. 4 among all teams by allowing just 283.6 total yards per game.
Cleveland will look for improved play under center in order to improve upon its 5-12 finish last season, though.
