Edwin Diaz Reacts to 1st Dodgers Save After Trending Video of 1st Entrance in LA

Adam WellsMar 28, 2026

The trumpets followed Edwin Díaz from New York to Los Angeles, as the star closer received a grand entrance at Dodger Stadium for his first official appearance with the Dodgers on Friday night.

Rather than simply rehash the entrance that Díaz has used since 2022 while playing for the New York Mets, the Dodgers brought in noted jazz artist and trumpeter Tatiana Tate to assist with a live rendition of the Timmy Trumpets' song as the three-time All-Star entered from the bullpen.

Díaz told reporters after recording a save in the Dodgers' 5-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks that he wasn't expecting the live performance to accompany his entrance.

"I was surprised a little bit," Díaz said. "I heard a trumpet sounding before I was coming out. I said, 'No way they got a live trumpet.' It was pretty fun."

He attempted to downplay the significant of the Timmy Trumpets' entrance coming with him from the Dodgers after being a huge part of his aura with the Mets.

"I was in New York, but now I'm here," Díaz explained. "I'm enjoying the time with this team. We have a really good team. I got ot keep doing my job. And I'm hearing the trumpets here at Dodger Stadium now."

There weren't many problems for the Dodgers in 2025 as they won a second straight World Series title, but the flaw they did have was a lack of bullpen stability late in games.

The Dodgers solved that issue by signing Díaz to a three-year, $69 million deal in free agency that made him the highest-paid closer in MLB history by average annual salary.

Díaz, at least for his first outing, showed why the Dodgers were so confident in giving him a historic contract. The right-hander tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts to record his first save with Los Angeles.
