New Myles Garrett Rumors Reveal Impact of Trade Buzz on Browns' Contract
The Cleveland Browns and star pass rusher Myles Garrett agreed to a contract restructure earlier this week, which led some to believe the team was planning to try to trade him.
Those trade rumors were swiftly shut down, though.
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Friday on Good Morning Football that the Browns are "adamant" about not trading Garrett, and the trade speculation had "nothing to do with the motivation for what they did in his contract" (h/t NFL.com's Nick Shook).
"It was not on the table last year," Garafolo said on NFL Network. "It is not on the table again this year. ... The Browns are saying they're not gonna trade him, and they've promised us that we're not gonna look dumb if we say that. So we'll see."
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on the Pat McAfee Show that he spoke to a source with the Browns, who said the team is "100 percent definitely not trading" Garrett.
The trade speculation was somewhat warranted. The Browns moved back Garrett's option bonuses, which Michael Ginnitti of Spotrac explained didn't actually free up any cap space.
Nonetheless, Cleveland is clearly adamant that Garrett is going nowhere this offseason.
