A description of the film included in the release explains:
"Through rare, never-before-seen footage and raw, emotional reflections from the players—now grown men—the film navigates the heavy crown of victory and the crushing weight of a media firestorm that followed. By weaving together the pure joy of the game with a rigorous, eye-opening investigation into the systemic hurdles, the documentary creates an endearing and urgent portrait of brotherhood. It is a story of resilience that ultimately asks what truly makes a champion when the trophies are gone, but the bond remains."
One Golden Summer premiered at the Chicago International Film Festival last fall, winning the audience award and The Chicago Award for best documentary.
The film follows Jackie Robinson West's run in the 2014 Little League World Series. It became the first all-Black team ever to win the United States championship at the tournament and played South Korea in the world championship game.
Soon after the tournament, however, Little League Baseball determined after an investigation that the JRW team used a falsified boundary map to use players on its roster who were ineligible to play and vacated all of its wins in the LLWS, including the U.S. title.
Kevin Shaw, whose previous credits include The NFL Season: A Biography series that aired in 2011-12, directed One Golden Summer.
