New York found plenty of success against Pirates ace Paul Skenes in the victory, as he was pulled after allowing five earned runs in a mere 0.2 innings of work.
Skenes, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, also gave up two walks compared to one strikeout.
It's worth noting that the rough first inning also contained Pirates center fielder Oneil Cruz misplaying a fly ball that allowed three runs to score.
New York continued to excel offensively after Skenes was pulled from the game, finishing with nine walks and 11 hits as a team.
The Mets' success at the plate was highlighted by rookie right fielder Carson Benge, who hit his first career home run in his MLB debut during the sixth inning of the contest.
Mitchell hasn't been shy about his Mets fandom in the past, as his father was a manager and hitting coach in the organization.
New York is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 83-79 finish in 2025, failing to make the postseason after advancing to the NLCS during its 2024 campaign.
While it's extremely early to make World Series predictions with 161 games remaining in the regular season, Mitchell still has lofty goals for the Mets.
